Louie's California Chinese Cuisine Report - SFCCLS #3

nja | Mar 26, 200405:37 PM

We're on a roll...

The SF Chinatown Chowdown Lunch Series #3 was held on 3/26 at Louie's California Chinese Cuisine. It was great to see everyone: the three-peaters, familiar faces new to the lunch series, and even a few new hounds.

A $20 per person (all inclusive) price was requested, three specific dishes ordered (duck, crab, bass), and the restaurant filled in the rest of the menu.

Dishes consumed were (please correct me on the proper names or missing dishes if necessary):

- shrimp dumpling soup
- xiao long bao
- peking duck
- salt and pepper crab
- tea smoked sea bass
- braised pig trotters
- chinese broccoli with garlic
- noodles with abalone flavored sauce
- thousand layer cake
- coconut gelatin

I sometimes wonder if a long opening post with detailed opinions on each dish somehow reduces the volume of opinions shared by the other attendees. So I'm not going to say anything yet other than: overall I very much enjoyed the meal and thought it was a great value. So, hounds, what did you think? Everyone share.

About the SF Chinatown Chowdown Lunch Series

Each week an ever changing group of hounds lunch at a Chinatown restaurant. We focus primarily but not exclusively on Chinese cuisines. All types of hounds are welcome to attend: veteran chowdowners or newcomers; experts in Chinese cuisines or those just starting to discover them. Seats for each lunch will be alloted on a first come, first serve basis to those on a mailing list being maintained especially for these lunches. If you would like to be added to that list for future lunches in this series, email njachow@yahoo.com and you will be given further instructions.

The SFCCLS are private, volunteer assisted events. No agency relationship, express or implied exists between any parties and Chowhound, Inc. These are not Chowhound, Inc. sponsored events.
