Just had to add my voice to the chorus of Lotus of Siam (Las Vegas) fans. I met a fellow chowhound (posts are a few topics below) there last night; although I'm a local I had never been there. It was absolutely wonderful and I'll certainly be making it a regular stop!
We started out with a crispy rice and sausage dish with peanuts and herbs that was amazing. This was followed by Tom Klong Pla Krob, "a sort of Thai gumbo" (we both had "cheat sheets" by Dave Feldman with us -- thanks so much, Dave!). These dishes were followed by an ultimate crispy duck and probably the best sea bass I've ever had. It was simply steamed with garlic, ginger and herbs -- perfect! The meal ended with a dessert sampler; the coconut ice cream was a stand out.
Marc introduced me to ice wine...what a delight! I'm not a sweet wine fan, but the complexity of the flavors was amazing. (We had a rather dry resiling with dinner and the ice wine with dessert.) Our host, Bill, spent a lot of time with us...he is completely charming and so knowledgeable about wines.
What a wonderful evening! If any chowhounds are in town and want to go, I'll return in a heart beat!
