Why is there no loquats?

EdwinNJ | Apr 24, 201502:01 PM

I asked a couple of weeks ago about loquats:

I've been going into the city for the past couple of weeks, no loquats! What gives!?
One of the CHinese ladies in Chinatown selling fruit said the season isn't for 2 more months.

I though loquats were an autumn/Spring fruit. The flowers develop in autumn, get fertiized, and the little fruits have to have no frost in the winter to survive to mature in early Spring, which is why throughout the South, you get no fruits, only flowers. I picked them in September/October in Santa Barbara, CA, which I guess means CA is so nice and warm the fruits can develop in the autumn. The people responding to my previous post said in Florida their trees were laden with fruit now. What gives?
