Thank you to all Chowhounders who posted great reviews/suggestions for NYC...We followed a lot of your advice and ate very well this long weekend....
Grimaldi's Pizza - the best pizza we had ever eaten in North America. Extremely well balanced.
Market Cafe - EXCELLENT and also very good value. The seared scalllops with potato puree was amazing. The best mashed potatoes ever. The steak frites was good, but we should have asked for the mashed instead of frites....It was also a good people-watching place, and it felt lively and fun.
Brio (on Lexington). Awful. The caesar salad dressing was gloppy bottled dreck. The pasta was ok, but nothing special. The staff tried to hurry us to turn the table even though there was no one waiting...Would not recommend.
Chickpea in the East Village - tasty falafel (it was green!) and inexpensive
Ceci-Cela Patisserie in Soho - Have had many many better croissants from bakeries in Montreal. Didn't want to try anything else since the croissant was mediocre.
Lanza on 1st - We at here after wandering for hours on empty stomachs. It was surprisingly decent food, and not too expensive. We really enjoyed their extremely fresh canolli.
Can't wait to go back next year to eat more great NY food!
