Just back from a week in London - most eating was at home of friends so little to offer in the way of new finds. One big disappointment: the India Club. The food was, well, flat. I had three friends with me (two locals) and none of us thought it was good. We ordered with the input of prior postings here as well as a couple of other dishes - prawn was mushy, chicken tough and not flavorful. Dips not interesting, didn't taste as though made on the premises. I will give the benefit of the doubt that it was an off night but has anyone else had recent experience?
Hadn't looked for it but walked past Rock and Sole Plaice in Soho - if this is the one that's gotten applause here before, it's too bad, as it's closed. We found a decent fish & chips place in the Victoria area - The Seafresh Restaurant on Wilton Road. Take out on the left, seating on the right. Very good, perfectly crisp and not greasy, fish cooked just to the set point. Chips okay, not uniformly crisp enough for me. Offered as a special that night was on-the-bone plaice (either grilled or fried) which was terrific grilled. Also tried the haddock and cod. Straightforward, no frills, very good fish. Went back for lunch the next day.
