lola's on solano

susabelle | Nov 25, 200307:51 PM

Stopped by Lola's on Solano this weekend, was chatting with the chef, who said he was glad for the Thanksgiving rush, since business had been slow. Which made me wonder if people don't know about Lola's. Did a search on the Board, didn't find a lot of really recent postings. There were several over the last couple years, all of them saying the same thing: whether it's little pizzas or roasted chicken or sauted chard or pastries, Lola's is terrific. When I stopped in yesterday, I couldn't resist a slice of Boston cream pie (I'm from northern MA,always a little homesick as holidays approach)--it may have been the best Boston cream pie I've ever had--wonderful sponge cake, custard that was light and creamy to-die-for, and a dark chocolate glaze whose creaminess perfectly played off the custard. I'd had Boston cream pie recently at Crixa's, another Berkeley favorite, and it was good. But this was great.
