Local 16 - great experience/report

Nancy | Jun 3, 2005 09:18 AM

A large group of us (9) had drinks and dined at Local 16 last night in honor of our good friend's upcoming wedding. We had a few of the yummy cocktails first - I had a watermelon, and then a tangerine martini - I know, not REAL martinis but they were awfully tasty.

We then sat down on the deck (with heaters - brrr!) for dinner and just ordered a boatload of the small plates. And they were all excellent. Can't remember each one but some standouts were the vegetable risotto, the scallops, seared tuna in bean puree, hummus, and a chicken dish. We also ordered three of the desserts - I tasted the "nutty cigar" (aka baklava) with pistachio ice cream, and a lovely rice pudding with roasted dates. Both desserts were delicious.

I also have to comment on the great service. I've had so many crappy service experiences lately (don't even get me started on the zombie at Cafe Deluxe!) that having an attentive and skilled waitperson really helped make the evening complete. Our lovely waitress attended to us all night with great care and promptness - we always had drinks when we wanted them, and she managed the food delivery really well. And when it started to rain, she moved us inside, with all our gifts, like an air traffic controller. That earned her a hefty tip and favorable comments to the manager as well.

I suspect this place gets pretty crowded on weekends, and parking is a pain even on a weeknight, but we had a great time and I will be back for more.
