Lima District, Peruvian in Annandale - Report

Steve | May 17, 201902:39 PM

This new place in Annandale serves high quality food though it seems like they have yet to find their client base. The menu has a lot of Chifa items on it, those noodle and fried rice dishes invented by the Chinese. I am usually wary of those dishes as they most commonly show up at the table as bad Chinese food.

But all three dishes ordered were very fine indeed. They started us off with a mini-bowl of cancha at the table. We ordered a ceviche de pescado, chupe de camarones, and the noodles a la huancaina with lomo saltado.

The ceviche was nice with bits of toasted cancha floating in the liquid. The creamy shrimp soup was made orange by red peppers. They provided some extra savoriness. This dish is done very well at La Limena in Rockville, but here it has an added kick to it. That doesn't make it better, but it does have plump shrimp just barely cooked which is a cut above.

Finally, the enormous platter of noodles in a thick creamy sauce were yellow from the aji amarillo. The soy sauce beef on top provided a nice contrast. All dishes were serve family style and could be shared by four people.

I look forward to going back.
