Lil Bistro 33 in LIC--an incomplete and very mixed review

I don't post often, but sometimes "lurk" (on a relatively low budget and only go out once or twice a month). I went last night with a group of 6 to Lil Bistro in LIC, get together with friends who moved out of the city ca. 2 years ago. So I thought I'd offer my opinion...

We got there about 8:30 (I actually was the 6th person in what was supposed to be a party of 5, so we squeezed in). We ordered a bit before 9, and the two Queens locals in our party strongly recommended some sushi dishes, and ordered them for their own entrees. After the salads, around 10 PM, the hostess came out, and said that there was no sushi left, much to the disappointment of members of the party.

Finally deciding on other dishes, ultimately we got our food. I had coconut shrimp, which was not bad, although the coconut sauce got kind of gloppy as soon as it cooled off. One member got tuna tartare, which looked quite good, but was a very small portion. Two got the hanger steak, which was said to be good, if perhaps not worth the wait. Other dishes included "spicy crunchy tuna (?)" mango shrimp, and teryaki chicken. Not sure of the quality of all these, but they looked OK.

At dessert (ca. 11:15-11:30--by this time we're the only customers), we ordered 1 warm apple tart (not warm) and 1 white chocolate souffle (undercooked and basically inedible).

Service overall was extremely slow and moderately friendly/helpful/courteous. Food overall was mixed in quality, when available. The place is quite a trek for me, so I wouldn't go again, but perhaps if one lives in the 'hood ...
