I've been for my first and likely last time to Liberty Cafe(unless a friend's dying wish is to have her/his last meal there). I'm genuinely confused by the amount of business I saw pass through that Friday night. My case is simple: I paid $16 for the steak, fries and spinach dish. Unless market prices for potatoes and spinach have risen horrendously, I'm really puzzled as to why my money only bought me a strip steak (standard diner steak cut). Admittedly, I've only really fully experienced one dish. I did try a bite of my friend's chicken pot pie ($13.50) which had a delicious crust, but the chicken and vegetables filling tasted quite mediocre, so didn't have more. Similarly, my own steak dish had the relative strengths in the fries and spinach, but the main steak feature was disappointing. Additionally, the pie crust, fries and spinach were thoroughly saturated with oil and butter. It leads me to believe that Liberty just globs butter into its other dishes as well (please tell me if that's incorrect). So in summary, the food that was good just seemed to be overrich in butter, and the meats were poor quality and worth nothing close to what you pay for. And yet it seems like many people frequent it consistently.
