we went to LES HALLES for lunch today. originally we wanted PARK BISTRO but it was closed and so that was the b-plan, but it of course it turned out just fine. i did walk past the DOSA HUTT on lex with a wistful stare, but it was cold so we forged over to park ave.
i had never ordered the LES HALLES charcroute garnie dish which they push this time of year so i went with it and i was pleasantly suprized with how great it truly is. wow.
you get a wide crock bowl filled with a variety of smoked meats like bacon, white sausage, hotdog and two types of pork chop over a mound of saurkraut. biting into one piece was more interesting than the next.
in this blustery weather all i can say is bless you french folks from alsace-lorraine you know how to deal with it in style. a must-try dish for cold weather.
my spouse had the onglet with mashed potatos and a greens salad. that cut is just my fav, it's like butta.
to cut expense i have one wine tip, you can drink 3 full glasses for the price of 2 with two people if you order a bottle instead of 'by the glass'(we ordered a bottle of bandol rose for $32; it's $8 per glass). trust me you need 3 glasses of wine each with meals like this.
i'll suggest this is a great meal option for the fall season. additionally, the cassoulet at LES HALLES is also a fav of mine compared to other versions around town. one negative--other than the onglet aka hanger steak, i don't rec the other cuts of steak there. and desserts are 'whatever' but they have a nice list of digestifs.
