Lela

I have always been a big Stewart Woodman fan going back to his Levan days. Heidi's 1.0 and 2.0 were my favorite restaurants in town not named La Belle Vie.

Lela has a much different vibe than Heidi's in terms of space and service. The service was a little uneven at Lela. At Heidi's the servers were really well trained and at the top of their game. First, we were seated in the bar area even though the dinning room was not full. Second, the server really seemed clueless about the menu and what was going on.

The food was also a little uneven. We asked for bread which was brought but it was not great and not warm. Anyone that has eaten at Heidi's knows the bread was remarkable. I then had the Ceasar which was good but a little too much vinegar bite on the pallate. We followed with three pasta dishes. The lobster truffle gnocci was not great. Very little lobster meat or truffle. Not much in the way of flavor. Also, the gnocci was way too thick and not delicate pillows but big chunks. A little unsavory. The sweet pea angliotti was a winner. Dip it in the chilli oil and it was really wonderful. I also liked the shrinp scampi dish a lot with olives and capers. The shrimp were smallish and not the highest quality. I had the hangar steak for an entre and it was fabulous. Well prepared with a salt program to dip the meat in.

Perhaps it is unfair to compare to Heidi's. Maybe he has to cut some costs on ingrediance. Either way, enough things were good that I will go back and try some more.
