Lead in my pot?

Gayle | Sep 20, 2005 01:14 PM

Hi y'all,

I have an old enameled cast iron pot that was my grandmothers. Similar to Le Creuset, but not. It's easily 50+ years old. I'm pretty sure that it came over to the US from Scotland with her in the 50's. I can figured out the brand or any information on the pot.

I recently bought a new Le Creuset pot and for some reason got to thinking about what the old pot was made of? Any chance that there's lead in the enamel or the pot itself? I mentioned it to my mother and neither one of us are sure, but both mildly freaked out and curious. I hate to not use the pot as it is so sentimental.

I've eaten MANY meals that were cooked in the pot? Should I worry? Any suggestions on finding out IF there's lead in the pot? How to get it tested, etc?
