Le Petit Santa Monica.(long)..eating my way thru J Gold recs:)

Upon reading a posting on the recs by jonathan gold and huneven recently posted here and printed in a local weekly, i decided to eat my way through the list...while ive been to many of the spots listed i thought id take a fresh look at all of them...I will go to at least one per week and talk about my experience here....

the first one i went to was Le petit cafe. I called about 11 am for a 12:30 reservation, which to my surprise they gladly accepted. The place is in a former industrial area with wharehouses that has had an influx of media companies recently. upon arrival we were greeted by the owner who promptly seated us in the back room...I say this is the room to ask for as the front room gets filled with smoke because of the open air kitchen. the room in the back is tiny but has mirrors throughout making it look much bigger...the small tables, the yellow curtains and tablecloths, all the yuppies getting out of beamers....actually wasnt that bad, not pretentious at all....seems like people were there to eat good food...

they have the lunch specials on the a chalkboard along witha regular printed menu....

I chose to have the fish in a sauce of lemon and capers..there were four nice sized filets lightly battered and fried witha the lemon and capers light sauce covering came with a fresh green salad, although you can choose mashed taters companion had the crab cakes---with lump crab meat and no excess filler! whcih were moist on the inside, letting the crab flavor through and not encumbered with too much fussiness.....there is a sauce that comes with it...comes with grilled veggies and mashed's///chose the fresh lemonade, which they refilled happily////partna had a coffee...great service to boot....we had a great time at this place.....
I say this place is a great rec...
