I had lunch at Le Pain Quotidien on little Santa Monica in Beverly Hills -- I guess it's a chain from New York with a branch in Brentwood and another on Melrose. Great brunch or lunch spot. I had an egg salad sandwich which came open faced with capers, anchovies and cornichons on top, on excellent country bread. Other intriguing sandwiches on the menu were duck pate, ricotta with radishes and proscuitto and melon (on a sandwich?). I'm told the croissants and chocolate tarts are excellent too. It's not easy to find an imaginative sandwich, so this is a good addition, even if it is a chain and not particularly cheap. But my egg salad sandwich at $8.75 was well worth it. Salads are up to $15, though, with seafood. They have a huge long table which I guess is to facilitate people getting together while they eat.
