I just purchased my first Le Creuset piece off Amazon.com (a 5.5 qt. French Oven in Flame) and I absolutely love it. However, upon closer inspection I noticed that it had several minor flaws - there are several black "spots" on the exterior enamel of the lid and one of the handles. One of the spots on the lid is actually protruding cast iron (pictured in main/first photograph). It's very slight, but enough to stop my fingernail when scratching at it lightly. The black spot in the third photograph is barely visible in the image.
Are these sorts of flaws par for the course when it comes to brand new Le Creuset? Spending $300 on a pot that has flaws is a bit unnerving, especially for a perfectionist like myself.
