just wanted to put in a quick word for layers bakery. this past weekend i went to vegas from los angeles with a large group of friends to celebrate a 40th birthday. based on a few chowhound rec's, we picked layers for the birthday cake, or rather cakes - a german chocolate and a vanilla buttercream with raspberries. the cakes were both amazing and the service was excellent - when i called to place the order, i asked for a german chocolate and a strawberry cream cake and was told they didn't want to do the strawberry one because the quality of the strawberries available locally was not good right now, so they suggested the vanilla raspberry instead, which turned out to be a great call. and as an added bonus, the prices were very reasonable as compared to what i'm used to paying for similar quality in los angeles - about $65 for the two 10-inch round cakes, which were more than enough for 40 people.
