Lauriol Plaza

We had a dinner the other night at Lauriol Plaza on 18th Street NW to see off two friends who are being assigned by the State Dept to Sichuan Province in China (they figured that Mexican food would be the least accessible out there). After waiting close to 90 minutes for a table, during which time we kept ourselves lubricated with frozen margaritas (not bad), we were all quite hungry, and yet all of us were disappointed by our meals. The salsa that they served with the nachos was over chipotle-fied (this from someone who loves chipotle) and just weird. My pechuga de pollo (bbq chicken breast) was bone dry and served only with melted butter as a sauce and some guacamole. I am reminded of the joke about people saying that a restaurant is so crowded that no one goes there anymore; this is one crowded place that I won't be visiting anytime soon.
