Late Lunch in Tribeca and Alternative to Balthazar for Dinner

Sue | Nov 28, 2004 05:40 PM

I am connecting in Manhatten with a girlfriend for the first time in over 20 years. She arrives at LaGuardia around noon Friday, has to check into a hotel in the E. 70's and she wants to have lunch in Tribeca that afternoon. (I am from Seattle but will have arrived the day before.) Does anyone have a suggestion for a quiet, comfortable place with very good food that we can have a late light lunch, catch up and not feel pressured to leave at a certain time?

That same evening, a table of 4 of us has now grown to 7. I have a reservation at 6 PM at Balthazar but they can't confirm a larger table until 4 PM that afternoon. I feel I need to make back up plans. Any ideas for a mid-priced restaurant for a group of us from all over the country, who want a dinner experience (atmosphere + good to very good food) that I might actually be able to get a table for 7 this Friday?! I am open to any area. One couple has never been to NYC before and I don't want them to be disappointed.

Thank you so much!
