Late-ish dining East Bay or SF?

Fine | Mar 21, 2004 10:13 PM

I know I've asked before, but hope springs eternal.

We have tickets to Berkeley Rep Tues.eve; play gets out fairly early--ca 10:15. Had hoped to go to CPC--web site says till 10:30 week nights, but reservationist blew me off, suggesting only we call to see if we could come after show let out. I replied we'd be too hungry and would want to head to dinner without (how does one say "futzing around" in French?).

Don't want to impose on long acquaintance with Alice Waters over this.

Anyone recommend any place to get a tasty meal at that hour in EB? We'll be heading back to SF, so don't want to go too far in the opposite direction.

Otherwise, how about Chinatown/North Beach/Marina area, other than the old standby Great Eastern?

(Lontime favotite Prego on Cow Hollow's Union Street has cut back not only its wonderful menu, eliminating many of the small dishes that always reminded me of a trattoria in Rome's Trastevere, but also its hours, though not dramatically.)

Many thanks.
