Area summer farmers' markets are opening.
I went to Copley on Tuesday and was came home with a heavy shopping bag. Since the farms are supporting more winter operations for winter markets, wholesale customers, their own farm stands and winter CSAs the early season selections are better than ever.
I bought asparagus, mixed salad greens, baby arugula, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, scallions, goat cheese, bread, and cookies. There was a lot more on offer.
I have an Atlas Farm Market share so most of my produce came from that stand. For fans of Old Friends Farm, Atlas brings in their greens and later in the season their local ginger.
SOWA, Copley, Cambridge Center, Jamaica Plain (677 Center) And Union Square are open as of today. Here are links to location maps and more opening dates for the central Boston markets.
Because of construction, Prudential Center won't be happening this year. Roslindale will move the the MBTA parking lot, and City Hall Plaza will become the Boston Public Market on the Greenway. The proposal for a Beacon Hill market was withdrawn.
What's your favorite market? When does it open? What are you seeing? What farm stands have you visited? What was in your CSA box?
