An all-time end-of-summer treat, the Late Duarte plum hasn't been seen in the NYC-area for years...along with other old-line varieties that have given way to generically titled "red", "black" or "purple" on the label.
I thought it was because of packaging technology changing from the old stapled wooden crates to cardboard - the Late Duarte is a thin-skinned, delicate beauty.
Anyone had these gems lately and where would that be?
