We tried a few places while in Las Vegas this weekend, here are some notes:
Daniel Boulud Brasseria at the Wynn- had dinner here on a Sunday night. It has a very wintery feeling menu, which isn't a great fit for the extreme heat (113). We looked out at the cultish Wynn fountain, and saw the moon rise and the face appear. The wait staff was pleasant, though things moved a little too quickly. For instance he asked the order we wanted our food served since we didn't order the standard 2 app and 2 main course, then 3 dishes arrived a few minutes later. We had the Foie Gras served on grilled pineapple. It was a good paring though the duck was a bit overcooked. We also ordered the beefsteak tomato salad which came with some goat cheese and a crisp cracker (I can't remember the fancier name...) as well as getting the highly recomended Danish Smoked Salmon. The Tomato Salad & Smoked Salmon were both quite good. Though the salmon should have come with the crisp cracker, since that really elavated the dish - dab of creme fresh, caper or 2 and the onions atop the cracker was wonderful. I choose their vichyssoise, which they frankly ruin by adding broccoli and romaine. It was a frightening green color and had a spicy creme fresh on top. It was all wrong. It didnt' have that creamy refreshing taste that is the mark of good vichyssoise. I sent it back (which I usually don't do unless something is inedible). The table next to us had gotten the lobster bisque and returned that as well, bad night for the soup guy I guess. I got the beet salad instead, which the server had recomended. It had great presentation and was delicious. We also got the Short Ribs, their specialty. They lived up to the hype. Very tender and well accompanied by mashed potatoes. The wine list was good. We opted out of dessert, and strolled around a while.
Fleur de Lys - Mandalay Bay. We had dessert here later that night in the lounge. It is a very chic and comfortable spot. I requested their tea selection and they brought over a beautiful box of tea options, which was an array of dried flowers and such. I was able to smell each of them and make a selection that was terrific. We had the "PARIS-VEGAS" Roasted Raspberries, Raspberry Coulis, Praline Ice Cream, Almond Nougatine. It was excellent!
Breakfast Buffet at Mandalay Bay - For around 12$ we had a great selection of berries and smoked fish. I thought it was a good selection and we were able to find a lot for my 19 month old.
Raffles at Mandalay Bay - Very attractive dining room. Huge portions. But best avoided. The breakfast were good but I opted for the Chicken Picata - HUGE MISTAKE. It was dreadful. I can't relive it by providing details.
Dinner at Bellagio Buffet - Crazy lines, don't go at 7pm no matter what your co-eaters say. 45 minute wait and with a toddler that is just cruel. Food was good. Everything was fresh and delicious.
We saw Zumanity - great show, not for the prudish though!
Have fun in Vegas!
