Given my penchant to go on and on I will try and keep these reviews short as I really will not be saying anything that I have not written already several thousand times.
The Verandah - My number one choice for breakfast again. The quality never waivers here. The make some of the most impossibly light airy and full of flavor pancakes that I have ever had. Their homemade Pastrami/Corned Beef Hash is also delicious. But it is the Huevos Rancheros that keeps me coming back. They are unlike any I have ever had and are far and away the best I have ever had. I am sure they are not "authentic" but not sure I would want them any other way.
Tableau - I had such a good experience the last time I ate here for breakfast that I anointed it my favorite Las Vegas breakfast for the next several months. I was happy to see upon my return that the braised kobe beef short rib breakfast was still on the menu. It is a very rich concoction that even I cannot imagine eating all by myself (especially after seeing the she crab bisque...had to order that!). So I decided to split it with my friend who had the tree ripened peach pancakes. Last time the potato pancake that was the base for this was as crisp as I could imagine while the inside remained perfect. This time it seemed to be a bit soggy. I am not sure if it was due to sitting to long before the waiter brought out (we did wait a while) or if the braised kobe beef was too runny. I believe it was both. While the flavor was still tremendous, the consistency lacked. The pancakes were so so. VERY dense and very good flavor. Too dense for my liking though. Finally, the she crab soup I mentioned above...HEAVENLY!!! Plenty of crab in the small bowl and the bisque was what I considered to be true bisque, not all thick and gloopy, but rather a thin cream base. I am not sure if a lobster broth was the base for this bisque (if it was it by NO means took away from the flavor or quality). And even if it were, I wouldn't change a thing. There was a tiny little crab BLT on the plate next the soup that was really nice. All in all good experience that was saved by the she crab!
Bouchon - I don't get it. Someone a while back commented that the they felt that the reason for being open was that the kitchen was staffed for lunch and dinner prep so why not. And I have to concur. There is no real imagination to most of the dishes (the Bouchon French Toast notwithstanding) and the service is spotty at best. Food preparation is very good but as I mentioned above, nothing special. In the past I have found their quiches to be from another planet they are so good. This time we did not have one so I cannot comment but saw one and it looked as good as ever. Nothing here is bad but nothing here is all that memorable either (coffee is outstanding!). Solid 3rd place behind Tableau and Verandah.
