I am posting to thank previous posters who steered us to Las Islas Marias at Grand and Cicero last night. As has been thoroughly previously discussed the shrimp heavy menu is full of unexpected joys. Of special note the camarones rancheros -- shrimp in a sauce that resembled the best green Thai curry I had ever had -- and the whole fried tilapia.
What has not been previously discussed, to my knowledge, is the most amazingly ramshackle mariachi band that I have ever seen. They looked like they had wandered in for the set of some great lost Peckinpah movie -- their costumes tattered and mismatched, their instruments held together by packing tape, and their faces showing every care, every regret, every kick, punch and hard slap. They were sloppy, too loud and off-key. They were perfect. They made a very good meal, tremendous.
