Just returned from spending 4th of July holiday at La Posada in Laredo.
Cotulla Style Pit BBQ (McPherson Rd.)- a combination of South Texas & Northern Mexico BBQ. Great Mexican breakfasts, cabrito. Run by Sanchez family from Cotulla. A major local hangout.
The Tack Room (adjoining La Posada)- Superb tenderloin, escargot, bread. Sadly, traffic at La Posada & The Tack Room is down from what it used to be despite NAFTA and Laredo being the 2nd fastest growing city in the USA although the ambience and experience is as good as ever. They say it is because of the growth of the north side of Laredo and competition from newer upscale establishments. Downtown Laredo, by the way, is gradually cleaning up and more historic buildings are being restored.
El Rincon De Viejo- In Nuevo Laredo, take a cab. Great old, established restaurant with beautiful garden, perfect cabrito al pastor.
El Dorado (old Cadillac Bar)- We stopped here for afternoon beers and ended up gorging on the guacamole and pico de gallo which was fresh, tangy and inexpensive.
