L'Affair - Mission Hills review

4 of us arrived at this cute, small restaurant (French Provencal, Californian & Mediterranean cuisine) at 6pm last night to celebrate mom’s birthday (again). Nice menu, and I am sure that everyone could find something that they like on it. They also had several daily specials (linguini jambalaya, pork medallions w/a honey mustard sauce, blackened Halibut w/Cajun sauce, among others). I have attached their website below for reference.
I ordered a cup of their French Onion soup and their Poulet (chicken) Piccata (extra, extra capers, please). Mom had their Escargot, Betty had their Caesar salad with Chicken, and Beth the special of the Pork medallions with a honey mustard sauce (and got a cup of the French Onion soup).
We got delicious French rolls with butter to start. So good. There is nothing like good bread and real butter!
The soup was okay, but I think I have had better (but mom and friend swore it was one of the best they have had).
My piccata was a butterflied chicken breast and the sauce was delicious. Came with veggies (squash, zucchini, carrots, broccoli, etc.) and a scoop of homemade mashed potatoes. Mom loves their Escargots so I know she was happy. Beth’s pork was deeee-licious, although it was a little sweet for me. Not sure what else she had on her plate – may have had the same veggies I did. Betty said the Caesar salad was fabulous (I did not taste).
For dessert they gave my mom a scoop of vanilla with this delicious strawberry sauce and whipped cream. We also ordered their apple tart which had a marzipan layer and Beth wanted this baked apple thing (cored, peeled apple baked in orange juice, stuffed with vanilla ice cream and glazed in chocolate). I liked the ice cream with the strawberry sauce they gave my mom the best,
Service was fantastic. Attentive, but not overly saccharine. Water glasses filled without prompting, Liz, our waitress, remembered all our names (bonus points for remembering my mom’s name – Wenche!!). The owner, Michel, came over and spoke with us and recommended the Chardonnay that my mom had with her meal (it was really, really good – of course, I cannot remember the name, but it is the one that he drinks all the time).
I would definitely recommend this restaurant. Really good food, not pretentious, not overly pricey and great service to boot! Our meal came to around $120 including tip.
Try it! You’ll like it!
