Was playing the board game Battle of the Sexes over New Years and the question was: "What is a ladyfinger"? Answer given was "A pastry often used in tiramisu". "Correct" answer was "A cookie". In my infinite generousity (or just that I wanted the pace of the game to pick up), I was OK with the answer. Heck...cookie, pastry...same basic thing according to the dictionary. I figure that cookies are just a *type* of pastry (not vice versa).
Anyway...can someone with authoritative knowledge explain why a cookie doesn't belong to the "pastry family". I need hard evidence one way or the other.
Thanks in advance.
