I've been following the postings on the I-5 Challenge but the reports haven't been coming in very quickly.
At the end of the month, we are headed north and plan to go from LA to Yreka on the first day [don't remind me, I know its a long haul and a wasteland]. At this point we plan to take the 5 N because we've been told its faster. This saddens us because we won't be able to stop in Bakersfield and eat at Noriega's or get ice cream at Dewars.
Can anyone recommend places to stop or should we just load up the picnic basket? On last years trip to Sequioa, we added hours to our trip in search of decent ice cream---at minimum, is there anywhere in the waste land for ice cream?
One thought we had is that if we leave early enough we could hit Woolgrowers in Los Banos for lunch.
All advice is appreciated and of course, we will report back.
