I visited LA from SF Bay Area Thurs 3/20-Sat3/22noon
Had a lot of fun eating way too much and running around.
Thurs afternoon late lunch:
Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles-had the breast and waffle. Didn't eat the skin but the meat was very hot (temp wise) and tasty. Waffle was good drenched in butter and syrup. Had taste of black-eyed peas-were good. Cornbread decent, bit dry. Black beans and rice-ok. Had to wait to be seated but service was quick, food arrived promptly. Would go back if in the area.
1514 N. Gower St (Sunset Blvd) LA Hollywood. 323-466-7453. BLD 9am-12am $6-9
Thurs dinner:Jackson's Village Bistro, Pier Ave Hermosa Beach. Very slow service, prices seemed high for each dish. Ahi Salad, tasty:$10. Ceasar Salad:good, small $5. Side veggies:ok $7. Fish special (somekind of white fish) $20+? Dessert:warm chocolate cake w/ ice-cream $7, cake was very good. Don't recommend this place.
Fri breakfast:Martha's 22nd St Grill. French toast was tasty. Sun-dried tomato egg scramble came w/ home-style potatoes, toast. Pretty good. Pricey but good. 3 people ate for $35.
Fri lunch: Pink's for a chili cheese dog, pretty good hotdog, chili was tasty. Bun was ok.
Pink's, 709 N. La Brea Ave. LA Su-Thur 9:30am-3am cash
Husband had to go to Thai American Express Cafe-loved the burger, it's one of the best burger's he had, I had a bite and totally agree!! If you love burgers don't miss this place! Burgers are huge, like 2"around and come w/ lettuce, tomatoe, pickles on the side, mayo and ketchup brought to you. French fries were ok.
Thai American Express cafe:2903 Rowena Ave. LA 323-663-1147
walked around Santa Monica Pier, saw sunset set from Palisades Park, walked around Third St Promenade
Fri dinner:Monte Alban for Oaxacan food. Try the cayuda:it's a cross between a Mexican pizza and tostada. Ours had black beans, cheese, tomatoes, chicken. Yummy. We don't have this in the Bay Area! Wow! Had the chicken mole in black sauce-sweet and good. Husband had the pork spine in green spicy sauce-that was very tasty. Horchata ok.
Monte Alban:11927 Santa Monica Blvd. W.LA 310-444-7736 mon-Sun 8am-10pm.
Sat. breakfast:Creme de La Crepe. Had good breakfast crepe with egg, avacado, cheese, tomato. Tried the apple cider-it was ok, similar to Martinell's apple cider. Came in a bottle from France? Service was ok, we were the first one's there on Sat. 9am.
424 Pier Ave. Hermosa Beach 310-937-2822
Sat. afternoon:Rushing to return the car didn't get to stop at the Farmer's Market in Santa Monica, bummer. Ended up at Rubio's for two grilled mahi-mahi soft tacos-slightly better than taco bell but twice as expensive in the Culver City Mall. They were $6 for both.
Thanks everyone that gave us suggestions for our short visit to LA.
