LA trip report

Jonathan | Mar 18, 200511:54 AM

my 1 night trip to LA, here is where i ate, thanks to the reccomendations from this board:

for lunch upon my arrival at LAX:
Gueltazan (SP?) -- the oaxacan restaurant, i ordered the mole negro with chicken - it was great! the rice was great, the sauce was great, this was the best meal of the whole trip, i still can't stop thinking of the black mole sauce, i could drink it like a shake or even take a bath in it (i was going to go to Monte Alban but lost the mapquest directions)

after my meeting, which ended at about 3:30 PM, i decided to go on a food adventure so i decided to have 2 snacks and a dinner:

snack #1: Dino's - I got the orange glo chicken and the fries - at only $4.00, this is a great deal and the chicken, fries and sauce taste wonderful, although i did feel a little out of place dressed in a suit. i finished all the chicken and 85% of the fries and headed to....

snack #2: Philippe's - never having been here and not knowing the protocol, i was fortunate to follow another person into the restaurant and so i just took his lead and walked in an ordered a doubled dip lamb sandwhich. it was fantastic, juicy with great flavor and i also liked all the sawdust covering the ground

by this time, i was kind of full so i was debating where to go for dinner or whether to eat at all, but i forged on with my plan....i was deciding between Mako, Torafaku and Shahzarad

i drove by Mako but it seemed pretty busy and i couldn't find parking so i tried to go to Torafaku. it was pretty empty at around 7PM and a little pricey, so i skipped it and drove to Shahzard (SP?) on Westwood.

I saw a couple solo diners in there so i felt comfortable going in and ordered the barg kabob entree with an addition of the rice with lentils and lima beans. the bread that is freshly baked is wonderful with the butter and onions. the meat was excellent, nicely seasoned and juicy my mouth is watering right now thinking about it. the rice was very good as well. the only bad thing was the roasted tomato that was served with the entree, it was still a little green on the inside, but that is a minor quibble.

the next morning i had an early meeting which ran late, so my plan's to eat at Langer's for lunch were thrown out the window and i just settled for McDonald's at LAX...oh well

anyways, thanks everybody for helping me out
