We had a very enjoyable paella from La Tasca Tapas in Arlington heights. It was take out for a celebration at home (15 guests, paella for 12) something we have done before but never in the Chicagoland area.
The paella was well executed. Seafood was abundant and cooked perfectly – shrimp, mussels, clams, fish and squid – and the rice was moist and flavorful. It had some touches that were new to us, such as yellow squash, but the paella was top notch.
While I was waiting I looked over the menu. Tapas look traditional and authentic and the variety enough to satisfy most diners.
One final word: we did ask them to accommodate two unusual requests, which they did (and the two other Spanish restaurants in the Northshore area did not). We will definitely return to try the tapas and now have our source for paella in northshore Chicagoland.
