LA Report--Campanile

Jim Zurer | Mar 24, 199907:52 PM

I have enthusiastically recommended Campanile on this
board in the past, but I will have to mute some of my
praise after my meal there last week.

The food was still excellent, but they are packing the
rooms so full that the noise level was unbearable. It
was one of those places where you had to shout to be
heard across the small table...and it was quite
unpleasant.

As for the food, the pasta appetizer with veal cheeks
and greens was stupendous, the ahi tuna good, but not
as good as previously, and my braised scallops were
exceptional. The best of all was the panna cotta for
dessert--bitter almond aspic on the plate, the panna
cotta set on an almond crisp, and the pieces of dark
chocolate almond bark strewn on the dish: spectacular
presentation and taste.

But the noise left a bad taste....and the prices
didn't help soothe the pain.
