La Perla Review

r cosimo cannizzaro | May 11, 2004 11:25 AM

Went to La Perla Saturday night after a Kennedy Center NSO concert. Finding a good place to eat after 10:30 is somewhat of a challenge. This was our second visit to this Italian restaurante. It was very disappointing. I asked for Panna in a half bottle and they brought a full bottle opened. I refused. It is a waste for two people unless you are big water drinkers. I told them I wanted a half several times. I think this is a big rip off in serving full bottles by restaurants for two people. Next the salads, they were definetly too big. Fresh greens but too large. We ordered pasta as out main courses as we don't like to stuff oursleves late at night. My wife ordered the pesto. Her comment was that it seemed to be made with dried basil and not very good. The "fresh" basil leaf on the dish was BLACK. I ordered the spaghetti ala carbonara. I am a pretty good Italian cook and this was not spaghetti ala carbonara. No hint of egg only a soupy cream with bits of bacon and no cheese in the sauce. Our waitress was very disorganized. It seems she was the only one working. Only about 5 tables in our area were occupied. The half bottle of Pinot Grigio was left on the table without an ice bucket or container to keep it cold. Net, we certainly won't go back. We will keep looking for late night places to eat.
