Did La Papaya Verte change hands?

UnConundrum | Sep 27, 2004 10:36 PM

La Papaya Verte has been one of our favorites for years... Every visit to Montreal (about 4 a year) included this great restaurant. Over the years, we became acquainted with a gentleman there, who, we assumed, was the owner. We haven't seen him for about a year now.
Tonight, we went back, and were, for the first time, disappointed.
We usually order from the specials and did so tonight. The soup, which is usually outstanding, was fair at best. The prices have gone up, which I guess has happened all over. But the specials which used to be $16.95 or $18.95 are now $22.95. Furthermore, I paid a "supplemental" $4 for my choice, shrimp in a peanut sauce, and had a grand total of 5 medium shrimp in my serving.
I'm hoping someone will tell me that I just hit them on a bad night (first time in about six or seven years). Does anyone know?
