I could swear I posted about this the other day, but I don't see my message, so I'll do it again.
This restuarant is on 77th Street near 5th Ave. in Bay Ridge. It's small and short on atmosphere, but the food more than makes up for that.
The tagines are great - chicken with almonds and dates was the best. They also have chicken or lamb with potatoes, lemon and olives, one with lots of root vegetables, and one with peas and artichokes, to name a few. You can get these combinations as either tagines or on couscous - but the straight tagines were somehow more exciting.
The briwat appetizers were a standout - tiny, crispy meat pies with lots of flavor.
My French friend proclaimed the creme brulee to be just like her grandmother's, and the owner brought out a free dessert that I can't remember the name of - tiny strands of pasta with butter, powdered sugar and pistachios. It was kind of like the Tibetan pasta dessert, but ten times better.
Sadly, the place was empty when we were there, and it's a shame because this place is really a gem.
