The first victim in this plummeting economy has fallen in La Jolla. Bully's on La Jolla Boulevard has quietly, and permanently closed. This is not a huge blip on the foodie radar screen, but a sad loss for the local community. It was a friendly, welcoming, cozy place that locals had brought their families to for decades. Not the greatest food in the world, but a comfortable hangout.
Not sure what finally did it in...the 2-year construction work on the boulevard for the inane and unnecessary traffic circles, the new opening of the cheaper family gathering place of Boll Weevil half a block down the street, or the tightening of credit markets to operate a small business in difficult times. I have lots of old memories to keep and think this is an eye-opener as to what lies ahead.
Support your small local restaurants. RIP Bully's La Jolla.
