LA "institutions" that DO live up to the hype

Thanks for all (well, most) of the reponses to my previous post about disappointments. For those of you who misread my post as LA hating, please see below.

Here are some LA "institutions" or "classics" or "must experiences" or "cult faves" that DO live up to the hype....These are places or experiences I would miss if I left LA.

Versailles, great food great value...Phillippes, classic french dip, classic atmosphere...Bel Air Hotel brunch, incredible spot, great food...Geoffrey's, view and food better than its rep...Monterey Park Dim Sum (various restaurants), great food, great experience, great value...Mulberry Street Pizza, very good, but sometimes too little cheese...Matsuhisa, great, but I understand detractors...Langer's, best pastrami sandwich I have ever had (I am not a fan of the giant NY deli sandwich)...La Brea Bakery bread...Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles, gotta do at least once...Nozawa, very good, but gets old after a few times since the "Trust Me" is usually the same...Any flavor Ice Blended at The Coffee Bean...Zankou Chicken, tasty,fast,cheap...Spago,great...Junior's Deli baked goods...Mateos, both "little" and "big", classic...Bay Cities godmother sub...Asia De Cuba Calamari salad...Urth cafe for lunch...Chateau Marmont for drinks, real old Hollywood.....
