La Fusta Review (Long)

abu applesauce | Jan 24, 2007 05:37 AM

Went to La Fusta for the first time last night with my wife. I can't say I had the full La Fusta experience becuase: a) My wife doesn't like skirt steak, or sausage, or sweet breads, so we didn't get the mixed grill for two; b) I am on very low carb kick, I only had one glass of wine. Anyway, here's my thoughts:
Food: We shared a fried provolone with oregano plate for appetizer--as good as it sounds.
Entree: I had skirt steak with sauteed spinach on the side (no potatos--low carb diet). Skirt steak was excellent, and HUGE!!! I couldn't believe that was for one person. Of course, I ate the whole thing (this is why I am on diet...). Which was probably a mistake, bc I left the place wanting to keel over...
My wife had grilled chicken, which was very good (i had a bite) and quite large (half of it is chopped up in my salad for lunch today.
Bill: Shared appetizer, one glass wine, giant skirt steak, grilled chicken, came out to 65 including tax and tip.
Ambience: Cute place--pretty quiet although it was a tuesday night, nice background music, not overwhelming.
Service: good, friendly--definitely not hawkish, I prefer to not be asked 4 times during dinner if everything is ok...if i randomly need a diet coke in the middle of my meal, i'd rather motion or even (gasp) stand up and let s/one know, rather than have someone standing on top of my head the entire i liked the service, though othersmight say they could be more attentive
parking: a bitch (frickin queens)--and the free lot is too far for a 20 degree night, especially for high heel wearing wife.
Overall: Nice neighborhood joint to satisfy carnivorous needs---good weeknight spot
Compare to Azul Bistro: Two separate experiences--the one time I went to Azul, I met friends at a bar first, then waited in Azul for a table where we sipped wine. The combination of a nice buzz, the delicious aromas of Azul (god does that place smell good), and a building hunger waiting for a table, made everything taste better I'm sure. Plus, I shared a mix grill, so I tasted 5 different things, all of which were excellent, as opposed to last night, where ths skirt was great for the first half, the second half was unneccesary and force fed (but still enjoyed!!)
I will definitely go back to La Fusta after low carb kick with someone who wants to share mixed grill....
