I hope I won't regret this (it's still possible to get in without a reservation), but I have to tell you about La Donna, which has become our favorite Italian restaurant in Chicago. The menu changes seasonally, and the food is great. Only once have I been disappointed, and that was only because the dish differed from what I expected, not because it was poorly done. Some of the dishes, like the pumpkin stuffed ravioli in a balsamic-based sauce, are sublime. The veal is always high quality. I wouldn't say the cooking is highly refined - but it's more than merely very good home cooking. I've never seen this restaurant publicized - does anyone else out there know about it?
