Kumo Sushi is in the Water Court Plaza, downstairs, around the corner from Pookie's Thai. In fact, the sushi chef is Pookie's brother. We walked in on a Wednesday night and we were the only ones in there. However, we were warmly welcomed and enjoyed a very delicious dinner.
I like the menu. There are specials on the white board on the wall, plus sushi and rolls and appetizers and salads. There are vegetarian items and soba offerings. We enjoyed dishes from almost all of these categories. The fish is fresh, and the chef is anxious to please. He told us he likes to visit other sushi bars to see what is being served; he seems very creative and enjoys "playing" with his ingredients in order to offer his customers something special. Yet, the traditional sushi items I ordered were very good.
The food is not in a league with the top 10 in L.A., but it is a solid option for those of us in the Conejo Valley who do not have a lot of good choices for sushi. For me, it is the best choice to date for sushi in this area. Also, they are open good hours and Sundays for dinner -- posted below.
I think the sushi chef is young, but I really do believe that he has the potential to grow a respectable bar if given the opportunity to stay. I hope to stir up some business for him by posting here, and I know we will be frequent customers.
