Kum Gang San, family BBQ day in QNS

Every once in awhile . . . I find myself at Kum Gang San on Northern Blvd in Queens -- it's such a great place for a big group!

This weekend we had an excellent meal with a very generous selection of banchan - crab, pancakes, two kinds of kimchi, tofu, little dried fishes, greens . . . on and on. It seems shocking that bulgogi is $24 until you understand that all this other stuff shows up too. We tried some pork BBQ and kalbi, but as always bulgogi is the most delicious.

Solid kimchichigai (I really have no idea how to spell this stuff, sorry folks) made our resident kimchi head happy. I go for the red shellfish stew with soft tofu; 10-11 on the menu, I think. All the greatest hits are there and the staff is really attentive and wonderful.

I daresay the QNS location is better than the Manhattan; I end up at each of them a couple times a year. The waterfall/piano thing in the city is too funny!

I'd be interested in recent opinions on the other Korean BBQ places in Queens . . . Kum Gang San just keeps calling us back...
