I caught at least two references to the high-quality sake from Niigata called Kubota Manju in the past week. One from a thread on the Mnahattan board about a new sake bar in the east village, and another from a post about Sushi Ryo on the Los Angeles board. I'm not sure if this is common knowledge among sake aficionados here in the US, but the Kubota brewers sustained major damage during the Niigata earthquake of Oct 2004 and lost just about their supply for the year. So I guess you need to get it while supplies last over here. I imagine it's going to be pricier once this year's supply runs out.
