Okay, so maybe there *are* indeed some places in town which may serve better coffee - but to me, the BEST I'd had in KL in the past year that I lived here had been the ones at Plan B in Bangsar Village. Owned by Benjamin Yong, who started the outrageously popular upmarket Delicious cafe-bistro chain before selling it off. He then went to start Plan B with perhaps the bundle he made from the sale (echoes of Alan Yau vis-a-vis Hakkasan/Yauatcha London?).
Anyways - Plan B sourced its aromatic, tasty coffee beans from Market Lane Coffee, Prahran Market in Melbourne. To those of you who'd not heard of Market Lane Coffee ... you ain't no coffee drinker ;-)
Best coffee in Australia (and KL) - IMHO, of course:
Other stuff which Plan B did pretty well:
- the Chicken Pie - *real* chicken pie with creamy filling, melting-soft chicken chunks all enclosed in buttery short pastry and topped with puff pastry. Best pie this part of the world. None of the "pie in an ovenproof bowl topped with puff pastry" nonsense. Here you can eat the whole moolah!
- Spicy crab spaghetti - lovely dish, scented with kaffir lime leaves & lemongrass;
- Macadamia-caramel-topped cheesecake - better than those legendary ones served at Delicious. let's say the Plan B ones were an updated, improved version.
- Chocolate truffle torte: pure nirvana for chocolate lovers.
Don't order: Nasi Dagang (YUKS!!), Nyonya Laksa (you must be kidding me!) and Ayam Percik with nasi ulam (dry & pretty bland).
But don't ever miss the coffee - absolutely perfect cuppa caffeine!
