I've been here a few times now, and I thought I'd share since it doesn't seem like Kowloon Tong is anywhere near as well known or popular as Creations Dessert House.
If you crave Hong Kong style dessert house with an assortment of hot and cold soupy desserts, glutinous rice balls, sesame this or that, or adventurous durian concoctions, give Kowloon Tong a chance. I would categorize the entire menu in the "cheap and tasty" category. Refined, it's not, but it's very enjoyable after a meal at Spices I.
My favorites thus far:
-waffle ice cream sandwich. Exactly what it sounds like, but done rather well!
-steamed custard with black glutinous rice and coconut milk. It might not be for everyone, but the flavor and texture combination is just something I love.
They don't have nearly as many desserts featuring mango as Creations does. But sometimes when I'm at Creations, I feel like everything's just a combination of mango and coconut milk. I like Kowloon Tong because there are a lot of choices, most between $3-7. Our four desserts was about $20 last time, and I think that included tax and tip.
Ambiance is barebones Chinese eatery, complete with glaring flourescent lights and linoleum flooring. Service is simultaneously brisk and brusque, but that's fine. Cash Only.
There are savory dishes on the menu as well, but I haven't ventured to try yet.
