Koh-i-nor (Mohegan Lake) fraudulent ad

Bill | Oct 4, 2002 01:33 AM

This is written in response to a posting on Koh-i-nor from a month+ ago. I'd normally just respond in that thread but we all know that no one looks a month down thus almost no one would see it, so I'm posting it in a new thread. The OP had said that she liked the Hydrabadi Mirchi chicken dish...

Interesting that you wrote about the Hydrabadi Mirchi chicken at Koh-i-nor because I have a copy of their menu here and it sounds very interesting. If you still have the current copy of the Clipper Magazine you got in the mail, there are coupons for Buy 1 Get 1 Free Entrees as well a $3 off a $15 take-out order.

That said, they are about to learn that one cannot print fraudulent ads. Their Buy 1 Get 1 Free Entree coupon claims to have a maximum value of $11.95 at dinner but only $6.95 at lunch. You might think (as I did) that the lower lunch value was because they had a separate, cheaper menu at lunch, right? You'd be wrong. The menu is the same at lunch and dinner, they just don't want to give as big a discount at lunchtime (I guess they are busier then). Other than the Kashmiri Pullao, which is rice with vegetables and fruits, which actually is $6.95, the cheapest entree on the menu is $10.95 (another rice), with the other dishes all $11.95 and up. I walked out of the place after the guy in charge (who I am fairly sure was the owner or manager or both) showed little interest in satisfying me when I pointed out that the ad was fraudulent, as one simply could not get a free entree at lunch, even though the coupon said "Buy 1 at regular price, get 2nd free".

They also had an ad in last week's Pennysaver for $2 off the "Weekend Brunch", valid Sunday through Thursday. I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt that that was a typo, as I did not ask about it (the buffet did not look nearly as interesting as Royal Palace, anyway).
