Had a delightful visit at KO Pies today. If I had been smarter and realized it is only 2 minutes from South Station, I would have gone long ago. Sam, the owner, now THIS is a guy in the right business. A talented chef that could not make you more welcome; a real ray of Aussie sunshine. Talked shop for awhile and had alot of fun. Loved the Irish Stew Pie (chunks of shredded beef with red wine; a richer experience than the regular Beef Pie (ground beef, no wine or spice/herbs.) and the month’s special- Curried Chicken and Potato Pasties (hand pie/turnover). My Love scarfed his Lamb shank pie and ordered take away.Almost every item here is house made: the flaky wonder of their pie dough(all butter, no lard etc) is a thing of beauty, the toothsome pie fillings, a neat selection of salads and sides. (The Lithuanian style pork sausage is done per KO’s recipe, at a local sausage vendor.)
Looks like their food truck will just be for special events now, as their new (formerly Scups) East Boston space will keep them plenty busy. They hope to move in there by late April or so. They will continue at this A St. location as well.
Btw, all their pies/pasties/rolls are sold frozen as well. If your freezer isn’t full with Wang’s dumplings, you’d do well to make some room for these KO treats!
We look forward to returning; getting some pies and those tempting salads and driving 10 minutes to Castle Island for a lovely outing.
