Knife set

In an effort to have some decent knives at home in Vancouver, I'm going replace my mom's useless Sabatier set with a decent one.

I don't need an extravagant set with 20000 different knives, nor do I need steak knives, nor a steel (already have 2).

The knives should be of reasonably high quality for a reasonably low price, should hold an edge well, and be relatively light.

Does anybody have suggestions?
