K&K Cafe Restaurant - A cheap unassuming Hong Kong style cafe with surprisingly tasty food.

Charles Yu | Oct 22, 201605:55 PM

A few days ago, whilst having my hair cut at a hair salon in the same plaza as O' Mei, Richmond Hill, I overheard a few barbers chatting with their customers about the surprisingly cheap and tasty food of the Hong Kong style cafe next door. Although I have noticed its existence from way back, however, because of the locale and its unassuming facade, I have never considered eating there.

Tonight, with the wife attending a cooking class and me being too lazy to cook, I decided to avoid the usual Saturday night crowd and popular places and give this pseudo-hidden place a try. The result? We experienced some surprisingly tasty and great value- for-money food! In particular, my 'Fried noodles with beef and peppers in black bean sauce'. Man, this must rate way up there amongst my all-time best tasting fried noodle dish. Arriving with a nice shin and colorful mosaic topping, the thin grease-less noodles was perfectly crispy. Topping was expertly seasoned and loaded with tons of wok-hay goodness. A plate of down-to-earth goodness and yummy work of art. The side dish of Fried Chicken wings with spicy peppered salt was flavorful, crispy and finger licking good. Both my kid's Baked Pork Chop Rice Casserole and Baked Spaghetti with meat sauce-Hong Kong style were pretty fine as well. Though, Ming's and Bayview Kitchen fare a touch better in taste profile and complexity.
Still, for the price and its close proximity from home, I am not complaining
