The Kitchen & Blue Fine Pastries in Boulder report

Hello Boulder chowhounds!

I'm currently in Boulder from Boston and searched the boards for rec's to eat at. Last night I had dinner at The Kitchen. RSVP was made online a few weeks ago just for me. They couldn't be nicer. I had the butternut squash soup with the most perfect pieces of apple and a drizzle of a jalapeno oil. Truly YUM. Since I'm a serious lightweight I had their fresh lemonade - also yum. It's TART so if you like things sweet, I think you should request it but I loved the tartness!

My main entree was their organic chicken. There were parts that were SALTY but it wasn't dry at all. Actually it came with some broth - which I think was the salty part. It came with a squash and gruyere panade which was very nice. I think I would have liked to try the garlic fries and not had more squash, but I wanted to try the dish as intended. The snotty redhead (LOL) next to me had the fries and they looked divine!

Dessert - oye! I was too full to have dessert so I had her pack me the Almond Tart with roasted pear to go. Had it hours later in the hotel and it was delish. I wanted to have the Sticky Toffee Pudding, a house specialty, but it came with ice cream and I didn't think that would translate after a few hours.

All in all, very nice experience. The owner even came up to me and asked how things were. I dined by myself but they did not treat me differently.

I was eyeing Tom's Tavern for a burger and might have to go there tonight... :)

This morning I was getting a manicure at Ten 20 Salon which is less than a block away from Blue Fine. I had Diet COke and M&M's while watching Sex in the City. It was not the best manicure in the world but the setting was so much fun. A good place to go ladies!

I picked up some treats to bring to friends - Chocolate Croissants (HUGE), Regular Croissants, (Ham and Cheese was already GONZO), Cherry Pie Cookies, and Fleur de Sel Brownines. YUM. They also have some truffles that are to die for. These are not the balls rolled in cocoa, They are hard shelled (chocolate) are very modern looking. I bought a box for friends but then bought a caramel, raspberry and vanilla ones for me. They were delish.

Thanks againg for the great rec's! I hope to see you on the Boston boards if you're looking for some good chow there!
